Getting Started

Once you feel comfortable about installing homebrew on your Wii, we are ready download the necessities. You will need some materials to actually install the Homebrew channel on your Wii such as a game and memory stick.   Remember, once you go through with this, you can still turn back later if you wish to delete the hack.  If you’re a bit scared, and want all the “steps” in video or perfect, get the Wii Unlocker.

Materials:

• A Wii console (it does not matter what system menu version)
• An SD card and reader for your computer
• The HackMii installer
• The Bannerbomb Exploit (Please see below to what version you need)
• A computer (PC or Macintosh)

Once you have downloaded the files, please return here for the next coming steps.  Make sure to read what Bannerbomb exploit you will need depending on you Wii.  If you’re not sure of what you need, please consider getting the Wii Unlocker guide which will solve all the “guess work” from this process!

When using the Bannerbomb exploit, there are two different versions you might use depending on your Wii firmware.

• For Wii Firmware 3.0 – 4.1 please visit Bannerbomb V1 page for download.
• For Wii Firmware 4.2 (only) please visit Banner Bomb V2 page for download.

Once downloaded, return here for further instructions.  Everything in this guide is inclusive and has the Bannerbomb instructions included.

Step 1: Format Your SD Card

Windows

1. Place your SD card into your reader;
2. Back up any data you might currently have on the SD card as this process will erase the data on the card
3. Open up “My Computer”
4. Right-click on the drive that contains the SD card and select “Format…”
5. Under “File system” make sure you select FAT
6. Click “Start” and let the process finalize
7. After the formatting is finished proceed to the next step

Mac

1. Back up any data you might currently have on the SD card as this process will erase the data on the card
2. Open up “Disk Utility”
3. Find your SD card in the navigation
4. Go to the “Erase” tab
5. Change the “Volume Format” to MS-DOS (FAT)
6. Click “Erase” and let the process finalize
7. After the formatting is finished proceed to the next step

Step 2: Adding The Hack to The SD Card

1. Extract both Bannerbomb and HackMii installer in an easily accessible folder
2. Open up the folder called "hackmii_installer_beta3" and copy "boot.elf" to the root of your SD Card
3. In the Bannerbomb folder, copy the folder “Private" to the root of your SD card.
